The tenets of historic preservation, education, and patriotism have been the guiding principles behind the Daughters of the American Revolution since its inception.  Chapters throughout our nation and abroad promote these endeavors through essay contests, scholarships, awards, and much more.  Teachers, parents, and students are invited to participate and learn more about the educational programs offered by DAR.

American History Essay Contest, grades five through eight

Established to encourage students to think creatively about our nation’s history, the American History Essay Contest provides a unique opportunity for students to demonstrate both their writing skills and their knowledge of our nation’s history.

DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, grade 12 only

As stated in the title, there are two parts to the DAR Good Citizen Award and Scholarship program.

Patriots of the American Revolution High School Essay Contest, grades nine through 12

Focusing on both men and women of the American Revolution, this essay contest encourages students to seek out and research patriots across all walks of life who sacrificed much to achieve our nation’s independence.  It is hoped that students will discover new and interesting patriots that inspire them.

Youth Citizenship Medals, grades five through 12

The qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism are key to maintaining an independent and sovereign nation.  The DAR Youth Citizenship Medal was established to encourage and recognize these qualities in our youth.  This is not an essay contest or an award that a student can apply for; it is a “recognition” of character and behavior.
